Gamba Zamba
Prawns in royal blue, raised in Germany: Aquapurna rears its White Tiger prawns in Bokeloh near Hanover, in crystal-clear salt water, without antibiotics & additives. They taste of fine salt water, with a subtle nutty sweetness and a firm, snappy bite.
What sets this product apart
The prawns grow in an indoor aquaculture system with a closed saltwater circuit, from larva to finished prawn entirely in Germany. The water stays crystal clear, and the animals need neither antibiotics nor additives. After harvest they go on sale fresh from harvest, blast-frozen without any ice glaze. On the plate: firm, juicy prawns with a delicate sea-water flavour, a subtle nutty sweetness & a naturally royal-blue colour.
Behind Gamba Zamba is Aquapurna: Florian Gösling and David Gebhard founded the company after a journey through India, where they saw the conditions of conventional prawn farming at first hand, from antibiotic use to opaque supply chains. Today the prawns grow in Bokeloh near Hanover, on the site of a former potash works. Over five years the team developed a land-based recirculating system with biological water treatment, probiotic cultures & reef structures for the prawns to retreat into, low-stress and independent of climate and season.
