HANNOVER GIN - British Connection 42 % Vol.
Hand-picked botanicals from British gardens, sent to Hanover by post and distilled there with herbs from the distillery's own roof garden: Hannover Gin GmbH makes the HANNOVER GIN British Connection in small batches in the heart of the city.
What sets this product apart
For the British Connection, Britons pick botanicals in private gardens and open countryside in Scotland, Wales & England. Every consignment reaches Hanover by letter post, with real stamps, and nobody knows in advance what will arrive. In the distillery, the founder, a perennials gardener who learnt his trade in Schwarmstedt, identifies the plants and adds the right botanical partner from Hanover and around the world. Distilled at 42 per cent ABV, every batch tastes a little different: fresh, fine & slightly eccentric.
In 2011 the founders built their distillery in the ruin of an old laundry in the middle of Hanover, complete with a roof garden where the Lower Saxon botanicals grow. Today the independent workshop, with no outside investors, distils 25 gins as well as absinthe, vodka & limoncello, among them Germany's oldest cask-aged gin, matured for eleven years. Behind the recipes stand more than 70 years of botanical family knowledge and a certification from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. As CityFarmers, the team cultivates native wild plants on roofs and facades, right into the courtyard of the Sprengel Museum.
